Three killed in accident near Karur

Three people were killed in a road accident at Thennilai on the Karur-Coimbatore highway when a TNSTC bus collided with an ambulance.

Murugesan (26) and his relative Baskar, both belonging to S. Vellalapatti, were returning from Velayudampalayam when a tractor hit them causing injuries to both.

Murugesan was taken by Baskar to a private hospital in Karur. After first aid, Murugesan was referred for follow-up treatment at Coimbatore.

Murugesan's relatives, including his mother Chellammal, engaged an ambulance to shift him to Coimbatore. Prakash of Karur was driving the ambulance.

When the ambulance was crossing Thennilai, a TNSTC bus from Kothagiri collided with the ambulance, killing Prakash and Murugesan's mother Chellammal on the spot.

Murugesan suffered further injuries in the second accident and was again rushed to a private hospital in Karur. But he succumbed to his injuries.

A total of 10 bus passengers suffered some injuries, while four persons travelling in the ambulance suffered severe injuries.
