Three killed as lorry rams van near Neyveli

Two women among three persons were killed and 15 others injured in a road mishap that occurred at Kannupalam near Neyveli in the early hours on Sunday.

Police sources said that Kannanadasan, a BSNL employee, along with his family members and relatives was travelling in a van from Chennai to Velankanni.

As the bridge at Kannupalam was too narrow van driver Yuvaraj (27) of Pandamangalam in Namakkal district, stopped the van to give way to an oncoming bus.

However, a lorry coming from behind rammed the van, pushing it into the 20-foot deep dry stream. In the impact of the fall the van suffered extensive damage killing Yuvaraj and a woman passenger N. Anjalai (56) of Vengalathur in Kancheepuram on the spot.

C. Lalitha (60) of Papperi near Arcot died on the way to hospital. Fifteen other passengers of the van who sustained injuries have been admitted to Cuddalore Headquarters Government Hospital. The Neyveli police have booked a case.
