Three killed as lorry overturns

Three persons were killed on the spot and six others injured when a tiles-laden lorry overturned on Natham-Kottampatti Highway at Sambaipatti near Natham in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were Kalidas (45), Ignacius Joseph (35), both from Melaiyur, and Arokiam of Karungudi near Tiruvadanai in Ramanathapuram district. The bodies were sent to Natham Government Hospital for post-mortem.

Antony of Karungudi, Prasad and Praveen Kumar of Ayankudi, and Subramani of Vadi Nanniyur in Sivaganga district, driver Rajappan of Thadikombu and cleaner Prakash, sustained minor injuries and were admitted to Natham GH.

Police said Arokiam purchased tiles in Dindigul and hired a lorry to transport them to Tiruvadanai.

Driver Rajappan lost control of the tiles-laden lorry, which overturned on the highway. Except for the driver and the cleaner, all the victims were travelling on the roof of the lorry cabin.
