Three persons from Chennai died on the spot and five others sustained injuries when the car in which they were travelling overturned on the Tiruchi-Madurai Highway on Saturday night.
According to the police, the occupants of the vehicle were going to Udangudi to participate in a wedding when its driver lost control resulting in the mishap near Mankulampatti Vilakku.
The deceased were identified as S. Babu (29) and S. Meenakshi (50) of Avadi and A. Gnanamani (60) of Tambaram West.
The injured have been admitted to Government hospital, Melur, for treatment.
The Kottampatti police have registered a case.
