Principal District and Sessions Judge Alamelu Natarajan on Wednesday sentenced C. Chinnathambi (48), P. Sakthivel (55) and M. Natarajan to double rigorous life imprisonment in a murder for gain case that occurred at Vellakoil on July 4, 2005.

Murder

Public Prosecutor for Tirupur district K. N. Subramaniam said that Chinnathambi, Sakthivel and Natarajan murdered Mahali (80), security guard at Pushpagiri Velayudhaswamy Thirukoil near Vellakoil, with sickles.

They then stole the silver and bronze ornaments of the deity and puja vessels from the temple.

The Vellakoil police took up the case under Section 302 (murder) and 449 (trespass into a building to commit offence punishable with death) of Indian Penal Code based on a complaint filed by Durai Ramasamy, who was the trustee of the temple, and also a former Minister in the State cabinet.

“The Judge has awarded rigorous life imprisonment for each of the two sections charged against the accused”, said Mr. Subramaniam.
