It was a joyous moment for the devotees in Tiruvarur on Monday when they pulled the temple car after a gap of four years.
The trial run of the car was a pleasure for devotees from different parts of the district who pulled it even while glorifying the presiding deity Sri Thiyagarajaswamy.
The temple car was last drawn in 2010 and it was renovated at an estimate of Rs. 2.17 crore.
A separate temple car for Sri Subramanyar was built as part of the renovation programme. A good part of the “Aazhi thear” was renovated.
A large number of devotees pulled the temple car through the east, south, north, and west streets.
The temple car was brought to rest in the evening.
R. Kamaraj, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, inaugurated the maiden run. M. Mathivanan, District Collector, Jayachandran, Superintendent of Police, and Kumaradurai, Joint Commissioner of HR and CE, were present.
