Thousands take dip in Kodiyakkarai

A large number of devotees from different parts of the state took holy dip at the sea shore in Kodiyakarai on the occasion of ‘Thai Amavasai’ festival on Monday.

Although it has been a usual annual phenomenon, the festival this year had a number of added significance.

Falling on a Monday, it had the phenomenon of a New Moon Day and a special position of stars. Such a phenomenon known as ‘Mahodaya festival’ was witnessed 27 years ago. Elaborate arrangements were made for the safety of the devotees. Plain-clothed and uniformed police were deployed at strategic locations.
