Suspended DMK leader M. K. Alagiri on Tuesday said that he was shocked to hear his father, M.Karunanidhi level “baseless allegations” against him in a media interaction.

“I never even thought in my dreams that Thalaivar (Mr. Karunanidhi) would level such allegations against me. Nevertheless, I choose to accept them as his gift on my birthday (scheduled to be celebrated on Thursday),” he said. “When I say I accept, I don’t mean that I accept the allegations as such. I only mean that I am accepting the allegations as my birthday gift,” he added.

Turning emotional at the end, Mr. Alagiri rushed into his house after stating: “My wish is that Thalaivar should live beyond 100 years of age. We want to die before him. I had told in a television interview recently and reiterate it now that his tears should fall on our dead bodies.”
