Panruti S. Ramachandran, who recently retired from politics, has been nominated for this year’s Perarignar Anna award. Two other political personalities - K. Ayyaru Vandayar and Sulochana Sampath have also been nominated for the Kamarajar and Periyar awards.
Recipients of other awards are: Yusi (Thiruvalluvar award); M. Prakash (Ambedkar award); K. Gnanasambandan (Bharathiyar award); Radha Chellappan (Bharathidasan award); Ashokamithran (Thiru Vi Ka award); and V. Jayadevan (K.A.P. Viswanatham award).
The awards, each carrying Rs. 1 lakh, a gold medallion and a citation, will be presented at a function here on Wednesday. Government orders granting financial assistance to indigent 30 Tamil scholars will also be presented at the function.
