The third unit of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS) resumed generation on Monday evening, after a gap of just 10 days, in view of a drop in wind power generation in recent days.

Two of the five units of the TTPS – the third and the first – were kept on standby as instructed by Load Despatch Centre to utilise the considerably high amount of wind power generated at potential sites in Tirunelveli Circle of Non-Conventional Energy Source, TANGEDCO.

Now four of the TTPS units, each with a generation capacity of 210 MW, were in service, sources said here on Tuesday.

The sources said the widespread rain in the State resulted in the drop in wind power generation. It might take two or three days to achieve normal generation.

Most of July, more than 2000 MW of wind energy was derived every day from potential sites in the circle such Aralvaimozhi, Shencotta, Muppandal, Kayathar, Eppodhumvendran, Tenkasi, Radhapuram, Vadakkankulam and Kudankulam.

However, wind power generation dropped to 1,600 MW on Sunday. On July 27, the circle had achieved a generation of 2,740 MW of wind power. Across the State, 5,016 MW of wind power had been recorded on that day, sources told The Hindu .
