Thenur tank reinforced with sand bags in Alanthur taluk

The bund of Thenur tank in Alathur taluk was reinforced by Public Works Department engineers on Wednesday following seepage of water due to heavy rain over the past two days.

The tank reached its full capacity of 11.99 cubic ft due to heavy rain in the Chettikulam area that received 51 mm and 13 mm of rainfall on October 27 and 28 respectively.

On receiving the information on Wednesday that there was seepage of water in the tank, Darez Ahamed, Perambalur Collector, ordered PWD engineers to strengthen the bund. The bund was reinforced using 300 sand bags. The Collector inspected the process. While the annual average rainfall of Perambalur district is 908 mm, the district had received 712.84 mm till October 29 this year. Of the 73 tanks maintained by PWD in the district, Thenur tank has reached its full capacity; two tanks have reached more than 50 per cent capacity, 11 tanks more than 25 per cent capacity, and 59 tanks less than 25 per cent capacity. Arumbavur tank and Pandagapadi tank are the two tanks that have reached 50 per cent capacity.

Meanwhile, Thazhuthazhai recorded the maximum of 56 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. The following is the chief amount of rainfall recorded in other parts of the district (in mm): Veppanthattai 53, Perambalur 51, Padalur 16, and Chettikulam 13. The district received an average of 37.80 mm of rainfall.
