The only two amusement spots

The Kurumbapatti Zoological Park on Yercaud road and the Anna Park in the heart of the city are the only two entertainment spots for the residents of Salem city.

The Kurumbapatti Park is a small zoological park, situated at a distance of 6 km from the city, is mainly known for its bird species, like the white peacock and small multicolour cranes.

Spotted deer, sambar, turtles, elephant, crocodiles, snakes, varieties of parrots and love birds, monkeys are the major attraction of this mini zoo.

Since the zoo is in the vicinity of reserve forest, people can enjoy both the flora and fauna here.

At Anna Park, the toy train and recreation items for the children prove major attraction.

Visitors are of the view that both the mini zoo and the Anna Park should be kept free from plastic wastes. People also favour proper lighting arrangements here.

The private exhibitions, food festivals, book fairs always attract good number of people. But they are very few. While the private exhibitions are held only during the summer holidays, the book fairs of small nature are held at the beginning of academic year.

The Corporation has earmarked vacant sites in the residential localities for setting up parks.

The local people feel that they could be developed as good parks with recreation facilities such as swings, sea-saws mainly for children, walkers’ tracks for the early morning walkers etc.
