Protesting the selection of candidates for the Assembly segments in the district, Congress cadres burnt the effigy of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu in front of Tirunelveli District Congress Committee office here on Friday.

They said the TNCC president had recommended the names of the persons, who had no connection with the Congress.

“A classic example is the nomination of Mr. Thangkabalu's wife Jayanthi in Mylapore constituency.” The protestors also demanded the fielding of former TNCC president Vazhapadi Ramamurthy's son Rama Suganthan.
