With hoisting of flag at Perianayakai Amman Sri Somaskandhar Temple, popularly known as Oorkoil, the 10-day ‘Thai Poosam’ festival began here on Wednesday.
Special pujas were performed to Lord Vinayagar and to the flag post at the Kodikatti Mandapam. Sixteen kinds of abishekams and special deeparadhana were performed to the presiding deities and the flag post. Later, mayura and vadhya pujas were performed.
Special pujas were performed to Lord Muthukumaraswamy and Goddesses Valli and Deivanai. They were taken in a procession along the outer prakaram and placed at the Kodikatti Mandapam.
With the accompaniment of mantras and Thevaram hymns, the flag was hoisted between 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Thirukalyanam to Goddesses Valli and Deivanai with Lord Muthukumaraswamy will take place at 7.30 p.m. on February 2. The car festival will he held at 4.35 p.m. the following day. The festival will conclude with the float festival on February 6.
