The first semester textbooks for B.E. courses in Tamil proposed for next year will be ready within the next two months, said P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University-Chennai, here on Tuesday.

He said committees of three professors were looking at the textbooks for each course and had decided to use technical terms from the dictionary of technical terms published by Tamil Virtual University.

“But, we will also use many common terms like “lathe” without translating them,” he added.

Students will also be provided spoken English courses for the first six semesters, he said. The second semester textbooks would also be developed soon, he added.

In response to complaints that Saveetha University was using the photograph and facilities of Saveetha Engineering College to recruit students to its School of Engineering, Dr. Mannar Jawahar said he had asked officials to look into issue and would consider action if necessary.
