The resolutions adopted at the recent Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) conference here, seeking equal rights for the Sri Lankan Tamils and peaceful resolution of their problems, will be submitted to the United Nations soon, DMK president M. Karunanidhi said on Friday.
Addressing a public meeting here to explain the objectives and resolutions of the conference, Mr. Karunanidhi said that DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin and former Union Minister T.R. Baalu would visit the UN and hand over the resolutions.
“We have already given copies of the resolutions to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi seeking India’s intervention in this issue. We will not stop with that. We will make a representation to the United Nations.”

Mr. Karunanidhi said that if the conference gained publicity and drew the world’s attention, the credit should go to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who imposed a ban on it. “I failed to thank her in my speech in the conference. Now I thank her.”
He was referring to the police denying permission for the meet. The decision was overturned by the High Court.
He said that the External Affairs Ministry had conveyed its objection to the use of the word ‘Eelam’ in the title of the conference only because an official had prepared a note without the knowledge of the Prime Minister and other ministers concerned.
Explanation
“I was furious when I read the letter and asked T.R. Baalu about the background of the official who was objecting to the word ‘Eelam’. Mr. Baalu contacted New Delhi and explained that it was not a newly coined word but had been used in the ancient Sangam literature.”
