Tension in temple festival as gang assaults man

Tension prevailed after a gang allegedly assaulted a person in an inebriated mood over some reasons at a temple festival in Anna Nagar here on Saturday night.

According to police, T. Muthukrishnan (26) suffered injuries and was admitted to Tuticorin Government Medical College Hospital. Irked over the incident, a group of people blocked Palayamkottai road near Cemetery stop demanding the arrest of the attackers. Though police personnel instructed the group to disperse, they did not heed to the instruction and blocked traffic. Hence, the police resorted to mild lathi charge. Based on a complaint lodged by T. Balasubramanian of TMB Colony (Extension), a case was filed by Tuticorin South police.

B. Vicky alias Vigneshwar (26) of Second Street Anna Nagar, M. Marudhavel alias Pappadai, Rasukutty and S. Balamurugan of the same locality were the accused, who are yet to be arrested. Investigation is on.
