Tension prevailed in Srivaikundam for some time following the murder of a Dalit on Thursday night.
Police said A. Arumugam (50) of Srivaikundam was murdered by M. Periyavan alias Siva of Velloor under Srivaikundam police station limits allegedly due to previous enmity.
Since the assailant is from a different community, tension prevailed in Srivaikundam for a while.
However, it subsided as the police immediately arrested the accused. Srivaikundam police have filed a case.
Additional police force has been deployed to avert untoward incidents.
