Temperature dips as sharp showers lash Vellore city

Rainfall may continue today, bringing some respite from heat

In the last two days, residents of Vellore have been finding some respite from the sun, with the day passing off mostly as a cloudy one. After an almost cloudy day on Wednesday, Vellore city received sudden showers in the evening.

The cloudy weather and drizzles have been giving residents, particularly those out on the roads, the much-needed escape from the scorching sun.

During the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, the district received an average rainfall of 7.53 mm. Vellore received 21.50 mm of rainfall, while Arakkonam recorded 12 mm rainfall.

Walajah received 11.20 mm rainfall and Kaveripakkam recorded 10.40 mm of rainfall. Areas including Melalathur, Arcot and Sholinghur also received mild showers. Ambur, Gudiyatham and Alangayam received 3 to 4 mm rainfall during this period.

On Wednesday, the temperature remained low in Vellore city. According to the Meteorological office, Vellore, Vellore city recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8 degree Celsius. No rainfall was recorded during the day. However, there were sharp showers close to 7.30 p.m.

Officials said Vellore may receive light rainfall on Thursday too.
