Tearful farewell to Umanath

Working people and Communist activists on Thursday bid a tearful and emotional farewell to legendary communist leader R. Umanath, who passed away at Tiruchi on Wednesday.

Central leaders of CPI (M) including Biman Bose, Brinda Karat, K. Varadarajan, addressed a condolence meting held at the district CPI (M) office. Leader of the CITU A.K. Padmanaban, party central committee member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan were among those who paid tributes.

State CPI (M) secretary G. Ramakrishnan presided over the condolence meeting. D. Pandian, State CPI secretary,

T.K. Rangarajan, Rajya Sabha member, R. Nallakannu, senior CPI leader, K.N. Nehru, former DMK minister, and representatives of various political parties also paid homage to the departed leader.

Amidst slogans of Red Salute to Comrade Umanath, the body was cremated at the Oyamari electric crematorium around noon.
