Teachers seek increased salary

March 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - TIRUNELVELI:

Members of the Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organisation (JACTO) have planned to take out a rally and organise demonstration here on Sunday (March 8) to highlight their demands mostly pertaining to hike in salary and the perks.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, P. Manoharan, member of JACTO high-level committee, said the State Government did not give salary on a par with the Central Government employees when the Sixth Pay Commissions were implemented in Tamil Nadu. Hence, this anomaly should be weeded out. All perks being given to the Central Government employees based on the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations should be given to the State Government employees and the teachers also.

Fifty per cent of the dearness allowance should be merged with the basic pay as the dearness allowance has crossed 100 per cent. Since the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had announced during the campaign for the 2011 Assembly elections that the party would implement the old pension scheme instead of the contributory pension scheme, the State Government should fulfill its promise.
