Teachers observe fast to highlight demands

Members of the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations (JACTTO) organised a protest fast in front of the Panagal Buildings here on Sunday to highlight their 15-point charter of demands. The Post Graduate Teachers' Association district president V.Jothimani led the protest fast in which the district secretary of the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers' Association, State treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers' Association Ambai Ganesan, and Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers' Association State executive member P.Subramanian took part. In Tiruvarur, the protest fast was held near the Municipal Office in which the JACTTO High Level Committee Member and Tamil Nadu Primary Teachers' Association president K.Meenakshisundaram led the agitation.

PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the district unit of the JACTTO organised a day’s fast here on Sunday. Their demands, among other things, included hiking of pay for secondary grade teachers, special teachers, and middle school headmasters on a par with the Central scale of pay, merger of 50 per cent of dearness allowance with basic pay, and restoration of old pension scheme. K.Dravidaselvam, district president, Tamil Nadu High and Higher Secondary School Headmasters Association, inaugurated the fast stir. Samy. Sathyamoorthy, State general secretary, spoke.
