In a suspected case of chain-snatching turning gruesome, a 52-year-old woman, B.S. Jayarani, was found dead with bleeding injuries on her neck on a road here on Thursday.
Police suspect the throat was slashed by the sharp gold pendant due to friction while the gold chain was forcibly pulled.
The victim was working as a teacher in a government-aided higher secondary school in Mela Panangadi.
She was found dead on the roadside a few minutes after she left home on a two-wheeler on her way to school.
The gold chain had a sharp dent. Blood stains were found both at the twisted portion of the chain as well as on the gold pendant, Samayanallur Inspector of Police S. Karthikeyan, said.
The woman had fallen down from the two-wheeler. She had also vomited at the spot, he added.
However, the victim’s brother B.S. Manohar, an advocate, said that the teacher could have been stabbed on the neck as she tried to raise an alarm. He found that all the shops nearby the isolated portion of the road had remained closed.
