Teacher held for sexual assault of school girl

A 27-year-old teacher of a private nursery primary school in Vazhapadi was arrested on the charge of sexually assaulting a Class I girl here on Friday.

The police said that the six-year-old girl used to go to the school in a van. On Thursday, she returned home and was crying.

When her parents questioned her, she said that a teacher had misbehaved with her during lunch hour.

Complaint

Her parents lodged a complaint with the Vazhapadi police. Inquiries revealed that E. Maniraja of Kuralnatham had joined the school as a teacher 20 days ago.

On Thursday, he lured the girl and committed the crime on the school premises.

Case

The police registered a case under Section 7 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and arrested Maniraja.

He was produced in the court and lodged at prison.

Treatment

The girl was currently undergoing treatment at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. Education Department officials held inquiries in the school on Friday.
