₹1.33 crore allotted for ‘Kudimaramathu’ system in the district

‘Kudimaramathu’ system of maintenance in which citizens of a community take up the maintenance and repair of a particular irrigation tank, has been introduced in Tiruvannamalai district.

A sum of ₹100 crore has been allotted for this system of irrigation in the State. Out of this, ₹1.33 crore has been allotted to Tiruvannamalai district to carry out the maintenance in 18 tanks including those in Mel Karippur, Kozhunthampattu, Radhapuram, Keel Vanakkambadi, Sorppanandhal, Mel Pennathur, Mel Chengam Pudur, Mel Vanakkambadi, Beemanandhal, Allappanur, Edathanur, Sadhakuppam, Mazhuvambattu, Serppapattu, Kungilinatham, Then Karumbalur, Kottaiyur and Vanapuram villages.

Clearing thorny bushes, repairing bund as per hydrological details of the particular tank, carrying out lining works in outlet canals and replacing disturbed boundary stones of the tank are done under the scheme. 10% of the project cost would be borne by water users and the remaining resources, including labour and construction materials, could be arranged from the funds allotted by the government. District Collector Prashant M.Wadnere inspected work done under the scheme in Kozhunthampattu irrigation tank on Tuesday. A five hundred and fifty-meter-long tank bund has been strengthened in Kozhunthampattu under the scheme apart from other work. The 18 tanks taken under the scheme has a cumulative capacity of 8.398 million cubic feet and would irrigate 830.4 hectares of lands.
