Tangedco assistant engineer held for graft

Sleuths attached to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday nabbed an assistant engineer of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) for demanding and accepting bribe.

A team of officials led by Additional Superintendent of Police, DVAC, M. Balasubramanian arrested P. Balu (30), assistant engineer of Tangedco, Alangayam based on a complaint from Abdul Shahid, a resident of Mosque Street, Alangayam in Vaniyambadi taluk.

According to the police, Abdul Shahid had approached him to install a new meter and provide connection to the house of his younger brother, who was working in USA.

Mr. Balasubramanian initially demanded ₹4,000 and reduced it to ₹3,000 after the complainant requested him.

Sleuths attached to DVAC nabbed Balu at the office of the Assistant Divisional Engineer, Tangedco (O and M), Alangayam after he accepted the chemical-coated currencies. The currency was recovered intact, police said.
