Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi on Sunday wanted India to take forward a resolution against Sri Lanka for its alleged war crimes in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), saying such a move would reflect its commitment towards the Sri Lankan Tamil cause and the aspirations of the Tamils across the world.
Talking to reporters here, he said people of Tamil Nadu and the DMK had been keenly watching the stand of the Union government on the issue.
“I have been advocating that India should take forward a resolution. India should support the US resolution. If India moves a resolution, this would reflect its duty and the aspirations of Tamils,” he added.
When told that India had been maintaining a position that was totally against the expectations of the DMK, he said the party had brought it to the notice of the Centre.
“We hope that the Central government will respect our feeling,” he said.
Mr Karunanidhi expressed the hope that the Congress would also take part in the conference organised by the Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) in Delhi to mobilise public opinion in favour of Sri Lankan Tamils.
He, however, denied the allegation that the Congress, especially TNCC president B.S. Gnanadesikan, was adopting double standards on the issue.
In a separate statement, Mr Karunanidhi called upon his partymen to participate in the picketing of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai on Tuesday.

Thank You DMK & TESO for voicing for Tamils in Sri Lanka. Please
continue ensure a tougher resolution is carried out against Sri Lanka
and India supports it and no 'watering down' at the last moment by India
like in 2012.
The political parties in Tamilnadu will open their mouth only for Srilankan Tamils issue where as Tamils in Tamilnadu are reeling under severe power cut price rise shortage of drinking water high cost of housing above all Tamil politicians are looting fleecing the Tamils. All this can be overcome by the political parties in TAmilnadu if they are really interested in the welfare of the Tamilians. In the recent Railway Budget and the general Budget small states in north are able to get something for their States except TAmilnadu. Is not shame for Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa? Where is your political acumen to get projects for Tamilnadu? Are you not capable for getting it ? You both have prevented and preventing the Tamilians from learning our national language Hindi till now. This has made us illiterate in our nation. My appeal both of you is work closely for the benefit of Tamilians and Tamilnadu.
Can someone tell this great leader to keep quiet? Instead of giving false promise and
gimmick talks... Fit for nothing always talks more than doing.
