Tamilisai Soundararajan, State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said on Saturday that the party will initiate action against actor S. Ve. Shekher for his social media post denigrating women journalists.

“I do not accept the excuse that he did not read the forward before posting it. It is not a good practice to forward before reading. Since he apologised, I was not considering taking action. However, the post has continued to circulate even after its removal. We will definitely take action against him,” she told journalists at the Chennai airport.

On her arrival at the Kaamalapuram airport on Saturday, Dr. Soundararajan said that she respected the sentiments of the journalists on the issue. She said as soon as she came to know about the message posted by the actor, she took immediate steps and forced its withdrawal. She said that all who post messages hurting the sentiments of others, particularly women, deserved severe condemnation.

“As far as I am concerned, this is an act that cannot be forgiven. It is not acceptable to say denigrating things about women and then apologise. Even if you remove a post from social media, it remains in circulation in other ways. I will ensure that this does not happen again; those involved in such activities will be disciplined,” she said.

Speaking to presspersons in Namakkal, Dr. Soundararajan said that Governor Banwarilal Purohit was an honest and powerful man and was functioning effectively in the interest of the State. He had nominated deserving candidates as the Vice-Chancellors of the universities in the State and had eliminated many illegal practices. Since the Governor had proved his efficiency, the opposition parties were trying to dislodge him.

Opposition parties were launching one agitation or another in the State just to be in the limelight, she charged.
