Tamil Nadu’s first ever two MW capacity wind mill set up by the union government’s Centre for Wind Energy Technology (CWET) at Kayathar near here would be commissioned next month.
At present wind mills installed in the State generated power in the range of 250 KW to 1.25 MW, officials said. The two MW mill would help better harness of wind power, which lasts only for six to nine months a year, they said.
The Shencottah Pass and Aralvaimozhi Pass in the southern region of Tamil Nadu have been found to have potential for energy generation through wind. A total of 246 new wind mills with total capacity of 184 MW were installed in these two passes alone between April 1 and September 30 this year.
Tamil Nadu is facing a shortage of over 1,400 MW per annum.
