About 40 industrial and trade associations in the districts of Tamil Nadu on Saturday sought equitable distribution of available power to all districts.
Briefing reporters on the deliberations of an urgent meeting of the associations, under Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers Association (TECA), its president, D. Balasundaram said barring Chennai, all districts were reeling under acute power crisis ranging from 10 to 14 hours, leading to closure and joblessness in industries.
At an average there was upto 40 to 50 per cent production loss and 50 per cent joblessness due to power outages, he said, adding, if TANGEDCO distributes power equally to all districts there will be some relief to industries.
The one-hour additional power cut in Chennai has resulted in additional supply of 30 minutes to other districts, since one-third of power is consumed by Chennai alone, he said.
The meeting decided to seek an audience with chief minister, J. Jayalalithaa to discuss the issue and a joint committee has been formed in this regard, he said.
He alleged that TANGEDCO has failed to implement the order of Madras High Court to provide power equitably to entire districts.
