The Tamil Nadu Health department is planning to set up AIDS control centres in all districts to create awareness among people.

Speaking to PTI, an official of the Health department said: "We just want to know if district-level units can be established for AIDS control, and if people would benefit from such a centre.” Depending on the results of a survey, the AIDS control centre would be established in all districts, he added.

Various organisations including Tamil Nadu Aids Control Centre, Tamil Nadu Aids Inactive and AIDS Persons Grievance and Control were working in different districts to create awareness about HIV/AIDS. Voluntary organisations were holding AIDS seminars and workshops to create awareness among the public, he added.

Members of the State AIDS Control Centre were holding discussions with each of the bodies involved in AIDS control to know their view on creating district level AIDS control centres, the official said.
