Tamil Nadu readies memorandum to Modi

With a Narendra Modi-led government set to assume office in a week, the Tamil Nadu government is preparing a memorandum to be presented to the new Prime Minister.

The memorandum will reflect the State’s known position on a host of subjects, including water resources, food and social security. It may include a demand for setting up the Cauvery Management Board and the Supervisory Committee for the Mullaperiyar Dam.

The memorandum is expected to seek more funds for infrastructure projects.

Additional quantum of power from the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project, financial assistance for linking intra-State rivers and removal of the stipulation of three-year period for provision of grain at subsidised prices of Rs. 3 a kg for rice; Rs. 2 for wheat; and Re. 1 for coarse grain are likely to be covered.
