Tamil Nadu coastal security on high alert

August 28, 2013 05:10 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:15 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Security in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu was put on high alert following an input from Naval intelligence that terrorists were likely to take the sea-route to enter the country, police sources said on Monday.

After an abandoned boat was found last along the Kodiakkarai Coast in Nagapattinam district last week, the alert was stepped up. A heightened level of security was being maintained at vital installations, particularly at major railway stations, places of worship and nuclear establishments, the sources said.
