Cleaning up of electoral rolls will be undertaken in Tamil Nadu and four other poll-bound States between February 15 and 29, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said in Chennai on Thursday. The exercise will be taken in non-poll-bound States between April 1 and August 31.

The Election Commission will use web-enabled software to monitor bank transactions and sale of liquor during elections in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Zaidi said.

The poll panel will brainstorm with 11 agencies including Revenue Intelligence, Income Tax, and Excise to come up with a strategy to curb the illegal practice of distributing money to voters, he said.
