Former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary, Jayalalithaa, on Thursday removed Agriculture Minister ‘Agri’ S.S. Krishnamoorthy from the Tiruvannamalai South Secretary post.

The action comes in the backdrop of serious accusations against the Minister by Opposition parties, in particular by TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan, who demanded a CBI probe into the death of an Agriculture Department official accusing that pressure from the Minsiter’s associates to make dubious appointments may have forced his to commit suicide.

A statement from Ms. Jayalalithaa said he would be replaced in the party post temporarily by Information and Technology Minister N. Subramanian till a new person is appointed through party elections.

However, the statement did not cite any reason for the action.

The move comes a day after the AIADMK general secretary removed a Chennai Corporation Councillor S. Santhanam, from primary membership of the party.
