Tamil language fest from April 1

The Tamil Language Festival, organised by Tamil Language Council, to promote and preserve the language will conduct 52 programmes in Singapore from April 1 to 30, according to a press release.

The festival will be inaugurated by Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry S. Iswaran at MES Theatre, Mediacorp, on 2 April at 6.30 p.m.

There will be a host of events including literary, oratorical and cultural ones. Kalki’s novel Ponniyin Selvan will be staged from 28-30 April; also, there will be subtitles in English for this production so that non-Tamil speakers understand and appreciate the novel. Sivakamiyin Sabatham will also be presented using classical music and dance.

‘Yutham 2017, a Tamil vocabulary competition for secondary and pre-university students, will be conducted.

Nanyang Technology University of Singapore Tamil Literary Society will present a quiz programme and a play based on Mahabharatham .
