One more labourer from Tirunelveli district, who reportedly suffered bullet injuries in an attack on a workers' camp in Libya, succumbed to injuries on Thursday, taking the death toll among Indians in the African country after the outbreak of domestic turmoil to two.
While S. Murugaiah Pandian of Thalaivankottai was killed a couple of days ago, T. Ashok Kumar (22) of Naagalkulam died in hospital on Thursday, according to information reaching here.
The External Affairs Ministry had said on Wednesday that Murugaiah Pandian had not died in an attack, but only in an accident. However, families of workers from this district say they had received information about an attack on a labourers' camp by an armed gang.
Victims M. Muthukumar of Kalappaakulam and Kasirajan of Kazhugumalai in Tuticorin district had suffered serious injuries in the spinal chord, according to the family sources.
“Dr. Ezhumalai from Vellore, who is attending to them in the local hospital, informed their relatives here on Thursday that both Muthukumar and Kasirajan had sustained very serious injuries in the spinal chord, which made them immobile,” the family sources said.
