Reiterating that a Tamil Eelam alone will offer a permanent solution for the Sri Lankan Tamils, who have been subjected to the “biggest ethnic cleansing of the century,” DMK leader and Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) president M. Karunanidhi on Monday said that the goal should be achieved only through non-violent methods.
Talking to reporters after the first meeting of the revived TESO, an organisation he founded in 1985, Mr. Karunanidhi said that even if the LTTE resurfaced to resume its struggle, the TESO would urge it to follow the path of non-violence. Asked if he had no faith in the armed struggle of the LTTE, Mr. Karunanidhi said, “Anyone committed to a cause and pursuing it with a pure heart and uncompromising fighting spirit will get our respect.”
Asked if LTTE leader Prabhakaran was still alive, the DMK leader said, “There is no death for warriors.”
Mr. Karunanidhi said that the armed struggle launched by militant groups in the wake of the suppression of Tamils failed owing to various reasons and led to the downfall of Tamils as a race.
“As we are keen on arresting the fall further, we want to change the method of struggle and suggest democratic ways accepted by countries across the world. We seek the support of the Indian government for this democratic struggle.” When his attention was drawn to the claim by CPI (M) leader T.K. Rangarajan, who was part of the Parliamentary team that recently toured Sri Lanka, that none of the Tamil leaders was interested in a separate Eelam, Mr. Karunanidhi said it was possible that the delegation would have met only people with such a viewpoint. “But there are a lot of them who have suffered and there is a need to get their opinion too.”
Asked if the DMK would leave the Congress-led UPA if the Centre refused to support the TESO's demand, Mr. Karunanidhi said he was optimistic that the effort would succeed. “When many countries decided to support the resolution against Sri Lanka in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), India took a belated decision. You should not forget the fact that the DMK's efforts led to India supporting the resolution.” Earlier, a resolution adopted at the meeting demanded the United Nations intervene and hold a referendum among Tamils in Sri Lanka and the Tamil diaspora for the formation of a separate Eelam.
“The United Nations will soon take a stand and leave it to the Tamils to decide the question of referendum. Already, a referendum is being conducted among the diaspora. This will create the conditions for recognition of the basic concept of Tamil Eelam adopted at the Vaddukottai conference in 1977.”

Whether the Tamils in Sri Lanka want a separate state or not Karuna wants to be in the limelight. Now that DMK has been thrown out from the assembly at least for another five years.. he has to do something to stay in the news. To fool the people of Tamil Nadu is very easy for a seasoned politician like Karuna. As the DMK has nothing to trun to its advantage it is playing the old trump card of Tamil Elam. Where was this guy when scores of innocent Tamils were massacred in Sri Lanka ?India has its own problems to deal with. Poverty,Corruption,Terrorism etc..then why go and interfere in another nation's problem ?
Tamil Eelam is the only solution. It is not the duty of others to help the people of a country it is the duty of the goverment, but this terrorist racist goverment is making trouble to tamils. When tamils build anything the army destroys it instead of helping so seperate country is the one and only solution.
If Karunanandi believes in achieving anything through peaceful means, why is he still supporting the Tamil Tiger terrorists? Should not he first start be condemning the Tiger terrorists for the distruction they caused over three decades, through truck bombs, suicide bombings and genocide of non-tamils etc
Sri Lankans Tamils cannot co-exist with Sinhala nation anymore, as innocent Tamils had already spilled enough blood and the Sri Lanka's Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces is responsible for this disgraceful act. However, I do not trust Mr K's timing of this political manoeuvring. He should have revived this organisation (TESO) and demanded a UN Referendam in May 2009, when he went on a breakfast to lunch fast; Mr K ended the fast despite the continued blood letting activity in the Sri Lankan Killing Fields (see UK's Channel 4 TV documentaries). If he acted then the way he is acting now, tens of thousands of Tamil lives would have been saved.
Karunanidhi will ask for a separate country for Tamal nadu, next. This
man is really funny.
If the honorobale former Cheif Minister Mr.M.Karunanithi really wants to help Tamil People in Ceylon (Srilanka); instead of asking for Eleam solution, his party and along with the central/state government provide assistance / funds to Ceylon Tamil people to stablize their life. This can be done without Eleam solution. Also if the following companies / organization like Sun group of companies(owned by Mr. Maran family), Dravida Kazhagam trust, invest their money in starting companies / factorys in Ceylon and provide 100% job opportuinities to Ceylon Tamil people that will help Tamil people. Eleam is not a solution. Instead of TESO, change the name to STSO (Sri Lankan Tamil Support Organization) and Mr.M.Karunanidhi can chair this organization and mobilize support from Indian Companies to invest in Sri Lanks for Tamil people.
Hey you madman, our def Sec has already given u the CORRECT REPLY.So pl have yr DREAM TAMIL EALAM IN TN!!!
Indian history records that the Tamils in India have wanted a separate state for nearly a century and tried to get it during independence from Britain. After indeopendence they tried to create a state in Tamil Nadu which the Indian Govt.stopped by amending the Indian constitution. Since then people like Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha have been trying to create a separate state in northern Sri Lanka and supported the LTTE to do so. They do not care that the LTTE killed thousands of Tamils - if they want a Tamil state, why not petition the Indian govt. and have Eelam in India which is the homeland of all Tamils?
Why cant Mr. Karunanidhi start the Tamil Eelam from Tamilnadu Itself?
Talk to the Central Government of India and ask for a separate State
(Eelam)from it.In Sri Lanka the Tamil population is around 3Million. In
Tamilnadu Its 70million!!!. Clearly Tamil Ealam should be in Tamilnadu.
MR.Sampanthan has said clearly that he is for a political solution within the united Srilanka. The other parties are also of the same view.People in Srilanka have suffered enough and they want to live a peaceful life in Srilanka. They want to start a new life.Mr.K is asking Tamil Eelam for his own political mileage. His support has dropped drastically in India. He is using poor Srilankan Tamils s scapegoat.Tamils dont need crocodile tears. If you really want to help the tamils, please leave them alone.
Such ideas should be nipped in the bud. A seasoned politician like Karunanithi should not seek to break a foreign country. How will he feel if Kashmiris demand a separate nation in India?
Despite respect for Tamil sentiments,I differ with Karunanidhi jee's stance. Why poke
Srilanka at this juncture,We have our own problems at home like terrorism and
Naxalist movements. We should focus on the emancipation of masses to become a
benign Superpower, rather than living in a Machiavellian world.
Supporting a Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka is as absurd as talking about an
independent Jammu & Kashmir. Yes, Tamils do have issues in Sri Lanka but
they need to work within the framework of a united Sri Lanka. They
should be shoulder to shoulder with others fighting for democracy,
freedom and civil rights. Tamilnadu politics should not fuel separatism
in Sri Lanka. Extremism of one community ignites extremism in other
community.
