The Manavala Mamunigal Mutt Jeeyar in Srivilliputtur, Virudhunagar district, on Tuesday said that the Editor of Tamil daily Dinamani, K. Vaidhyanathan, had apologised at the Andal shrine for having allowed Tamil poet-lyricist Vairamuthu to make ‘derogatory’ remarks against the Vaishnavite minstrel.

The remarks in question, which the lyricist had attributed to a research publication, were published in Dinamani . Some sections of devotees, along with the BJP and a few Hindu outfits, have since held protests against Mr. Vairamuthu. On Tuesday, Sri Sri Sri Satakopa Ramanuja Jeeyar of the Manavala Mamunigal Mutt told reporters, in the presence of Mr. Vaidhyanathan, that the latter had tendered a public apology at the Sri Andal temple. The pontiff added that the “peaceful protest” against Mr. Vairamuthu will continue until he publicly apologises for the remarks. It may be noted that the lyricist had recently expressed regret over the remarks.
