Talks today to end stir

May 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:36 am IST - KOCHI:

The Central Labour Commissioner has convened a meeting of trade union leaders at the Indian Oil Corporation’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) bottling plant at Udayamperoor on Monday.

A flash strike on Saturday disrupted operations at the plant during the second shift.

Trade union sources said issues raised by a section of the workers were expected to be resolved at the discussions.

They claimed that the flash strike was the result of a stand-off between two groups of contract workers at the plant.

A recent meeting of stakeholders convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy requested all categories of workers to avoid strikes without notice period. Saturday’s development was in violation of this, sources said.
