The talks between the Neduvasal struggle committee and a team of officials from the ONGC in the presence of Union Minister Pon. Radhakrishnan failed on Saturday.

After a four-hour marathon meeting at the Circuit House here, the ‘Save Neduvasal’ representatives told reporters that they would not withdraw the stir until the Centre categorically assured that the project would be shelved for good. “We will not compromise in any manner or accept any alternative proposal,” a member said.

Mr. Radhakrishnan told reporters that the meeting was primarily meant to thrash out differences. “The villagers raised a lot of questions. They spoke with clarity. The ONGC officials clarified. It was a cordial meeting but we could not come to an understanding,” he said, adding that Tamil Nadu was the only State firmly opposing the project.
