“Talks between fishermen will resolve issues”

January 12, 2014 10:01 am | Updated November 16, 2021 06:03 pm IST - KARAIKAL:

The proposed meeting between fishermen of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka this month would lend a platform to resolve issues, including frequent attacks on fishermen and their property, V. Narayanasamy, Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Officer, said here on Saturday.

Speaking on the sidelines of party events here, Mr. Narayanasamy hoped the meeting scheduled for January 20 would offer solutions to several issues.

Taking cognisance of media reports flagging the plight of a Karaikal woman struggling to retrieve the body of her husband, an expat labourer who died in Jumail in Saudi Arabia in September 2013, the Union Minister said efforts would be taken to bring back the body of Palanichamy and also provide compensation to his family.

On non-disbursement of drought relief to farmers here for the last year’s drought, Mr. Narayanasamy said the Puducherry government was responsible for the plight of farmers.
