PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Friday urged the State Government to intervene in the issue of IT majors laying off employees after the new US regime instituted new visa rules.

In a statement, Ramadoss said that the policy changes in the US favoured companies hiring locals.

‘Rules tightened’

“They have tightened the visa rules. Therefore, with increase in wages and reduction in revenue, companies are laying off employees by the thousands. Cognizant Technologies, which is headquartered in the US, has laid off 50,000 employees in India,” he said.

He further said while the companies were suffering because of the policy changes in the US, the problems were not unsolvable. “The companies are trying to get rid of mid-level managers and make young employees do the same work for far lesser wages,” he said.
