November 11, 2012 12:06 am | Updated November 17, 2021 05:09 am IST - CHENNAI:

PMK leader S. Ramadoss on Saturday urged the State to take over the ‘cash-strapped’ Annamalai University in Chidambaram if the management refused to give up its plans of retrenchment and cutting salary of employees.

In a statement here, Dr Ramadoss said if the situation had come to such a pass, it was entirely due to “inefficient administration” of the management which went on ‘an appointment spree’ and reached a situation where the strength of employees was on a par with the total number of students. The PMK leader since the university was run with the assistance from the State government and the University Grants Commission (UGC), it would not cause any additional burden to the government in the event of a takeover.
