Tahsildar held on graft charge

M. Balamurugan (42), Tirunelveli Tahsildar, was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths while allegedly taking a bribe of ₹18,000 at his office on Monday. Sources said the Tahsildar demanded the money for issuing solvency certificate to R. Paramasivam, a contractor from Karaieruppu. Mr. Paramasivam lodged a complaint with the DVAC unit, Tirunelveli. The police booked a case against Balamurugan under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was later remanded in judicial custody.
