The Central Awareness Observer for Erode, Rajiv Kumar Jain, took stock of activities pertaining to Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme being carried out by the district authorities to ensure cent per cent polling in the forthcoming elections to the State Assembly.

Returning Officers for the eight Assembly segments: Erode East, Erode West, Modakurichi, Bhavani, Bhavani Sagar, Anthiyur, Gobichiettipalayam and Perundurai, detailed about the voter sensitisation carried out through processions, cultural programmes, competitions for students, rallies, mini marathons, human chain formation, and pasting of stickers on gas cylinders and water cans.

District Collector S. Prabakar said that the students have been familiarised with the SMS service through the Election Commission's helpline 1950. Of the 21,444 students over 18 years of age in 57 colleges in the district, the names of 16,314 have already been enrolled. For the remaining 4830 students, special camps were being conducted in colleges for online registration, Mr. Prabakar said, informing that Erode has been ranked third in the State for having made 30,410 online registrations.

Mr. Rajiv Kumar Jain also inspected the photo exhibition of the Public Relations Department, visited the office of the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, and inaugurated the Mobile Voter Facilitation Centre.
