Mohamed Ansar (38) of Coimbatore, who was nabbed by Special Investigation Division of Crime Branch–CID for allegedly concealing a pistol, was on Thursday remanded in judicial custody till August 30.

Ansar was produced before Judicial Magistrate Ramalingam at his residence in Palayamkottai.

After arresting five persons, including Mohamed Thassim from Melapalayam on July 27, the police recovered 17 kilograms of explosives from a house in the same area.

Subsequently, the police arrested Thassim’s accomplice Bilal Hussein.

Since the US-made pistol of Al-Umma activist Kitchaan Buhari – lodged in Bangalore Central Prison after being arrested in the Malleshwaram blast case – had reached the hands of Ansar through Thassim and his friend Mohamed Bashir, the police interrogated the trio and found that the weapon had been dumped in a drainage, from where it was recovered with 53 rounds of ammunition on Wednesday.
