The Special Investigation Division (SID) of the Crime Branch CID, probing the murder of Hindu outfit functionary at Vellore and Auditor V. Ramesh of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Salem, on Friday picked up a suspect Basheer (24) from Podanur area in Coimbatore City.

Police sources said the suspicion about Basheer was that he should be in the know of things relating to the whereabouts of four most wanted suspects in the two murder cases and also in the Bangalore blast that took place near the Bharathia Janata Party (BJP) in Malleswaram. SID grew suspicious about Basheer, after he was seen frequently taking the family of Kitchan Buhari to Bangalore. The trip was to enable the family to meet Kitchan Buhari lodged at the Bangalore Central Prison in connection with the blast case.

There were inputs confirming that a group of lieutenants of Kitchan Buhari had taken instructions from him at the Bangalore prison to co-ordinate with Police Fakrudeen with whom Kitchan Buhari had reportedly handed over explosives. The interrogation of the five accused secured from Melappalayam with the explosives resulted in the SID getting the missing links in the terror network, sources said.

The outcome of the interrogation helped in fixing up the prime suspects and also the name of Basheer who was in touch with Buhari and his family. SID then started its search for Basheer and picked him up on Thursday.

“Basheer is being questioned at an undisclosed destination for more information on the most wanted accused namely Paravai Basha, Police Fakrudeen, Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik”, he said.

Securing this accused will help in resolving the Vellore murder case and some more clues on Bangalore blast and Salem auditor murder case, sleuths said.

Information from examination of Basheer leading to the arrest of the four accused will not only help in resolving the cases and identifying the remaining accused, but is also expected to help in recovering the remaining quantity of explosives.

Only 17 kg was recovered from Melappalayam of the 40 kg that was reportedly routed by Kitchan Buhari through Police Fakrudeen.
