Following a tip-off, investigators zeroed in on the suspect and apprehended him from his relatives’ place in Udumalpet.

“He confessed to having raped the two minor girls at knife point. One of the victims identified Veerasamy after we showed his photograph,” a senior police official told The Hindu here.

Enquiries revealed that Veerasamy, a painter , used to frequent the home. An eyewitness recalled having seen the accused near the home prior to the incident. “Medical examination has indicated sexual assault on the victims,” the official said.
