In the last two days, the storage level in Sathanur Dam has been steadily rising.
The dam has been receiving inflow after surplus water from the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) Dam was released on Saturday.
According to officials, on Monday, the water level at Sathanur stood at 1,365 mcft as against its total storage capacity of 7,321 mcft.
The current water level was 78.10 feet as opposed to its total depth of 119 feet.
“Water from KRP Dam was released on Saturday. It reached Sathanur Dam at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Initially, officials at KRP Dam said they will be releasing about 3,700 cusecs. On Monday morning, the inflow into the dam was 4,000 cusecs of water,” an official of the Public Works Department said.
As the day progressed, the inflow reduced on Monday evening, he said, adding that the dam was getting the inflow prior to the northeast monsoon.
The dam had reached its full capacity last in 2015 following heavy rains.
The northeast monsoon brings rains from October to December.
Getting water before the northeast monsoon is definitely good news for farmers as about 50,000 acres of agricultural land benefits from the dam.
It includes the old ayacut area of 5,000 acres in Tirukoilur.
